A Bridal Shower--Bangladeshi Style

This past month, I was able to join the celebration of the marriage of my two good friends, Shawn & Dola. Shawn is from Canada and Dola is from Bangladesh. The first part of the festivities included a "Guy-Halude." The night before the wedding, all the guests arrive to the program dressed in yellow/orange & red to deliever gifts and to prepare the Bride and Groom for their wedding day. During the program, guests enjoy dancers and fellowship, but the real fun comes in smearing smashed tumeric (and orange spice) on the skin of the Bride and Groom. It is said to leave them 'glowing' on the wedding day.

This is the bride, she is almost ready.....

Here the couple sits as guests come to make them beautiful.

Turns out it's not just for the bride and groom. Near the end of the program, everyone turns orange.
